Madhubani painting also known as mithila painting is a traditional painting of mithilanchal, Bihar. Madhubani is the main place of the mithila region where this art is elaborately practical by the women. This painting  is a powerful message of conservation of the region’s rich biodiversity and has become a way of life of this region .among all traditional art of the world only Mithila painting is dominated by the women, which has not only national recognition, but International acclaim  as well. The women sit on the ground and keep the paper on a mat and on wooden box to create traditoional madhubani art.                                       

   Traditional  Mithila painting was primiarlly a wall painting, It was previously door to decorate the mud wall of the rural houses and used as aripan on the floor. whenever certain ceremonies needed to be performed, painting were made on the wall and on the floor. this popular art of the mithila region express the creativity and sensitivity of its people .Like any folk art. It also shows the psychology of the soceity to which it belongs, its reflects the moral, values and customs of the region in a very intresting way. This age old art achived by the use of fingers ,twings ,brushes ,nib pens and matchsticks, using naturals dyes and pigments and is characterized by eye catching  geometrical patterns. HISTORY OF MADHUBANI PAINTING

 2500 years old folk art ,the history of Madhubani painting is  said to date back to the time of Ramayana, when king janaka asked an  artist to capture his doughter’s sita wedding to prince Rama .these painting usually created by women on walls and floors of homes during fastivals, ceremonies and any occasions .Having originated in the Mithila region of Bihar ,this form of painting ,also known as Mithila art ,has been in practice in area as around of Bihar and Nepal. Madhubani painting  to continue to primarily depict the nature and the Hindu mythological figures and the generally associated  with Hindu deities ,fish, bird aniamals natural objects like the sun moon and Relegious plant like Tulsi or banana Tree. Beside these central objects of the artwork, scenes from the royal court and social events like weddings are also widely painted.

Traditional Mithila Painting

process of painting– The art of madhubani painting required a practice and skill. In older days making of Madhubani artwork required simple raw materials, which are easily located in  the village such as bamboo sticks, cotton ,Firstly the cotton is wrapped around a bamboo sticks to serve as a brush ten the brush is dripped in colour and applied on the fabric. The outline was done double lines. the gaps between the two lines are filled with cross or straight lines, in those days vegetables colours were used to make Madhubani painting. BUT in the current scenario the madhubani artist uses the colors ,which are easily available  in market, and this makes the work  easy for them initially the making of madhubani start by choosing the figure and on the canvas the figure is drawn by free hand. main charactrised of Madhubani painting are double border ,decorative floral pattern, abstract figures of  Mithila art  .                                                                                                         The Mithila artist developed style of their own; a lover and beloved are placed in the foreground of a folk painting. here a kind of reversal of the poetic situation takes  place .painting and poetry come delightfully together in traditional Mithila art to capture the culture Traditional and landscape of the region. Madhubani painting have traditionally two farms. Bhittichitra [PAINTING MADE ON AMUD WALL]and Aripana [on the ground-soil].
